The International Red Cross said Tuesday that Israel has fired white phosphorus shells in its offensive in the Gaza Strip, but has no evidence to suggest it is being used improperly or illegally.

The comments came after a human rights organization accused the Jewish state of using the incendiary agent, which ignites when it strikes the skin and burns straight through or until it is cut off from oxygen. It can cause horrific injuries.

Well, I guess that settles that.  Israel isn't targeting civilians with white phosphorus or in any way violating international law with its use.

My English is not so great so I'll need more information. "phosphorus shells" isn't it those bombs that light up the sky? like lightning bombs? just a question...

Not really.  White phosphorus is a chemical that burns and creates a lot of smoke.  In the daytime, the IDF fires shells of white phosphorus to make a smokescreen so that Hamas snipers can't see or shoot Israeli troops.  At night, the white phosphorus shells have the opposite effect -- the smoke, floating in the air, provides some illumination so that the soldiers can see to undertake whatever mission they're undertaking.

The controversy was this: if white phosphorus lands on the skin, it can cause serious burns.  Some Hamas lovers & Israel haters thought that Israel was using these white phosphorus shells to injure innocent Palestinians.  This is silly, because if Israel wanted to harm lots of Palestinians, they'd just shoot them.  Obviously, Israel isn't trying to harm Palestinian civilians.

The Israel haters also claimed that Israel was violating international law by using these white phosphorus shells.  This article proves that Israel was not violating international law.  (It also proves that a lot of people who claim that Israel is committing war crimes have no idea what they're talking about and are just pulling their "facts" out of their ass.)

IDF? does what mean Israeli defense force? (sorry I'm new in this).

got it. your right the used it to create a vial of smoke just like the day they got into Gaza, by foot. Someone maybe by mistake someone was injured specifically at night, but definitely not on purpose. I've been in the army I know how stuff works.

Evil propaganda.   If there is this thing that the incendiay chemicals could be used properly or legally against crowded  cvilians then squitering napalm on civilians is good and lawful , may  be the insectcide is cheaper to do the job

Evil propaganda?  From the ICRC?  Your claim is absurd on its face.  The Red Cross is the most eminently neutral group.

And what exactly the Red Cross did say ?  ''has no evidence to suggest ...extra''     'has no evidence' during chaos is not stating anythig in defense of using incendiary chemicla.      The evil propaganda is the seeded topic  from JPost assuming that few  will notice:    ''which ignites when it strikes the skin and burns straight through or until it is cut off from oxygen. It can cause horrific injuries.

But who didn,t notice on live TV the teeming shreds of burning stuffs everywhere in Gaza streets? ...legal????

The AP reported the same thing.  It's not specific to the Jerusalem Post.

Logic tells us that if there is no evidence to support a proposition, we must assume the proposition is false.  If there is no evidence of illegal activity, there is no reason to believe that illegal activity has occurred.  I'm sure the ICRC saw the video to which you are referring.  According to the neutral experts, it's not evidence of illegal or improper action.

Also logic tells us to wait until the attacks from ground and air and sea stop ,so experts can move freely and check the horrible aftermath

I was not refering to any video , it was on 24 live airing on BBC TV and others and the camera was focussing at those littered blazing objects in the streets  and the severe burns of  wounded people after every phosphorus squitering

OK, if the video of the "squirtings" was on the BBC 24 hours a day, I'm sure the ICRC saw it.  They still concluded that Israel was doing nothing improper or illegal.

You see it this way because it didn,t happen to Israel they are the ''others''.      I see it as what it is , a cruel assault on human lives and health because I see all ''the others'' are alike ..none of them is a worthless obstacle including the few victims of Hamas rockets
